The de novo draft assembly of the Acacia mearnsii genome is a project aimed at using genomic tools and approaches for the development of molecular breeding tools for small growers of Acacia. We used long-read as well as short-read sequencing data to de novo assemble the draft genome; from this, we explored the species's phylogenetic relationships based on assembled genomic and chloroplast sequences. We also identified microsatellite markers based on the assembled sequences; these will be used in future studies for in-depth marker panels for genotyping by small growers in their breeding processes.
