The aim of the study was to determine the pro-inflammatory effects of the drugs lopinavir and dolutegravir (comparator) on isolated human neutrophils. The pro-inflammatory effects investigated were neutrophil degranulation as well as reactive oxygen species generation. Spectrophotometry and luminol-enhanced chemiluminescence were utilised. The effects of the drugs on intracellular calcium fluxes were also investigated using spectrofluorimetry.
