Analysis of the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on women street traders

This data analyses the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on women street traders in the Marabastad area of Pretoria. The Covid-19 pandemic has had profound socio-economic implications worldwide, with vulnerable populations such as women street traders facing unique challenges. This dataset presents a thorough examination of the pandemic's impact on women engaged in informal street trading, shedding light on the economic, and social consequences they have experienced. The study comprises of data collected from Marabastad area in the central region of Pretoria with a focus on women street traders as key informants. The dataset encompasses a wide array of variables, including but not limited to education, employment, changes in trading patterns, commodities, association, and the overall well-being of women street traders. The data was collected through interviews. Preliminary analysis of the dataset reveals significant disruptions in the livelihoods of women street traders due to the pandemic. Many have faced income loss, reduced access to essential services and increased food insecurity. Additionally, the dataset highlights the diverse coping strategies adopted by women traders, such as using their savings, borrowing money or getting money from the stokvels.
