Analysis of thirteen narrative strategies in storytelling : Black professionals
The qualitative dataset for this study includes 13 participants who were purposively drawn from the registered professions of accounting, engineering and industrial psychology, using both convenience and snowball sampling. Data was analysed in line with the narrative approach to individual stories, to identify the narrative strategies used by Black professionals in maintaining a positive, coherent sense of identity using an existing framework.
The narrative strategy model employed evolved during several iterations in which the themes relating to narrative strategies were constantly reviewed, adjusted and refined. Our dual aim was to capture the experiences of the interviewees and to identify the narrative strategies they used in talking about them.
