<p>A mixed-method data collection approach was used. Quantitative and open-ended qualitative survey data was collected. </p>
<p>Research paper 2 (chapter 3)</p>
<p>A mixed-method data collection approach was used. Data was sourced from students' interactive online engagement while using a dedicated developed instant messaging tool. Transcripts of the students' instant messages served as the data source. Quantitative and open-ended qualitative survey data was also collected. </p>
<p>Research paper 3 (chapter 4)</p>
<p>A mixed-method data collection approach was used. Data was sourced from students' interactive online engagement while using an online social annotation platform to collaboratively read and annotate a financial reporting standard. Transcripts of the students' online annotations downloaded from the online platform served as the data source. Quantitative and open-ended qualitative survey data was also collected.</p>
