This study included a questionnaire at the University of Pretoria's COSUP centres, where a questionnaire was presented to both people who use nyaope and health care workers at COSUP. The questionnaire focused on the perception of the constituents of nyaope, the effects of using nyaope, the side effects, withdrawal symptoms, and route of administration. Following the questionnaire, 62 nyaope samples were collected throughout the Tshwane district and analysed through LC-MS/MS to determine the constituents in nyaope and compare these results to the perceptions of nyaope users. This study aimed to address the myths surrounding the effects and constituents of nyaope found in current literature and the media.
