Classroom practices of student teachers using SiSwati and English in the primary school, and implementing language policies
The two documents present two datasets which were generated for validation of a thesis titled 'Implementing language policies in Eswatini: student teachers views and practices using English and SiSwati'. This research is one of the rare studies informed by learners as' participants. Thirty-three student teachers were participants in this study. The document classroom practices of student teachers using SiSwati and English presents data collected using classroom observations. Only ten of the thirty-three student teachers taught lessons for classroom observations. Therefore, ten sets of classroom observation data are found in the document. Each of the ten classroom observations is presented as a chapter with a topic informed by the theme of the unit in which the topic is found. The document bearing the title: 'Student teachers speak on implementation of language policies in Eswatini' is a compilation of semi-structured interview data. The semi-structured interview data was also collected. Thirty three student teachers were interviewed. Therefore, there are thirty three semi-structured interview datasets in this document. This data documentation was organised such that each of the thirty three transcribed semi-structured interviews is a chapter of its own. For instance the first interviewee's contribution is chapter one. Chapter eleven is the eleventh participant. The transcribed interview datasets in each of the chapters bear a chapter topic named from the chapter's interview content. Among other things, student teachers interrogate issues of language choice and use especially in teaching and learning. This semi-structured interview data was also used for a journal article titled 'Teacher training and language in Eswatini: student teachers views and practices using English and SiSwati'.
