Determine the accuracy of the predictability of different carbohydrate and protein system models to predict milk yield, and milk urea nitrogen values in pasture-based systems
A collection of datasets from published studies done at Outeniqua Research Farm that includes individual and group data from the studies. Six external (not done at Outeniqua Research Farm) are also included. The dry matter intake (DMI) was estimated in two ways 1) back-calculation method 2) model predicted DMI minus concentrate intake. Sixteen studies consisting of forty-seven different treatments groups previously conducted at Outeniqua Research Farm along with six external studies, from USA, Brazil and UK, consisting of fifteen different treatment groups were used to assess the accuracy and precision of the NRC 2001, NASEM 2021, CPM-dairy and AMTS models to predict milk yield of grazing Jersey cows using group data. The best ability to predict milk yield was shown by NASEMactual (R2 = 0.395, slope = 0.877), followed by CPMactual (R2 = 0.432, slope = 1.077).
Three hundred and eighteen individual cow data points from five pasture-based studies consisting of 17 different treatment groups conducted at the Outeniqua Research Farm were used to determine precision and accuracy of the four different nutritional models.
