Electric vehicle model simulation results for an electric vehicle powered by a battery-supercapacitor hybrid energy storage system
The electric vehicle reference model was used to simulate the proposed battery-supercapacitor hybrid energy storage system as well as the battery only energy storage system. The electric vehicle (EV) reference application represents a full electric vehicle model with a motor-generator, battery, direct-drive transmission, and associated powertrain control algorithms. The electric vehicle reference application is used for powertrain matching analysis and component selection, control and diagnostic algorithm design, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
In the dissertation titled, "Supercapacitor control for electric vehicle powered by hybrid energy storage system", a rule-based energy management system was proposed, and it was modelled in the electric vehicle reference application for a fully active battery-supercapacitor Hybrid Energy Storage System. The battery-only energy storage system was modelled it is results were used as a baseline. Then the proposed battery-supercapacitor hybrid energy storage system was modelled, and the results were compared to the battery only energy storage system.
