A multi-method design was used to develop a psychoeducational programme to support family members caring for mental health care users in the Vhembe District of Limpopo Province, South Africa. The study adopted a pragmatic approach in three phases, of which Phase 1 of the study used qualitative, explorative, descriptive, and contextual approaches. One-on-one semi-structured individual interviews with the family members were used to collect qualitative data. Braun and Clark's thematic data analysis was employed to analyse the collected qualitative data.
