Geological maps, backscatter electron images and lithogeochemical results of the Schrikkloof formation, Rooiberg group (bushveld complex)
This dataset contains geological maps that were generated using historical data as well as field mapping; the geology comprises the Schrikkloof and Swaershoek Formations. Several pictures, forming part of the dataset, were taken during the field excursion.
Rock samples were collected from the field and sent to the Council for Geoscience laboratory to make polished thin sections. The photomicrographs were acquired from polished thin sections using the Olympus BX41 microscope with an SC100 Camera. Furthermore, the polished thin sections were utilised to acquire backscatter electron images by means of the scanning electron microscope - energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) analysis method at the University of Pretoria.
The X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) methods were used to analyse rocks for lithogeochemical results reported in this dataset.
