Grade 10 and 11 textbook analysis of the representation of the relationship between photosynthesis and respiration
This dataset contains the table used to analyse Grade 10 and Grade 11 Life Sciences textbooks. The analysis focused on the representation of the relationship between interrelated topics of photosynthesis and respiration. Three different Grade 10 and 11 textbook series were used for the analysis. The textbooks were analysed to ensure the content aligns with the intended curriculum. The textbooks were further analysed to determine whether photosynthesis and respiration are discussed separately and whether links are made between these two related topics. Diagrams, activities, and experiments, that accompany the written text, were also analysed to assess whether the relationship between photosynthesis and respiration is made within the the textbooks. Misconceptions, as stated in literature, were kept in mind to ensure that the textbooks do not contribute to misconceptions about photosynthesis and respiration. The findings from the textbook analysis, alongside the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement document, were compared to the standards as stated by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Society of Plant Biologists and Next Generation Science Standards.
