Household and community perceptions on Miombo woodland use and management in Gundani Village, South Africa
This dataset supports a mixed-methods study conducted in Gundani Village, located in the Vhembe District of Limpopo Province, South Africa. Data was collected using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The dataset includes an Excel file containing structured household survey data that captures demographic information, livelihood activities, woodland resource availability and importance, and existing management practices. Another Excel file documents the use value of different tree species based on their utility for firewood, fodder, construction, and other purposes.
The quantitative data includes two Word documents comprising transcribed qualitative data: one from a focus group discussion held with community members to explore collective views on woodland use and management, and another from a key informant interview with a local stakeholder knowledgeable in forest management. A PDF copy of the questionnaire used for data collection is also provided. The combination of these data sources offers a comprehensive understanding of community-level interactions with Miombo woodlands, highlighting socio-economic dependencies, traditional knowledge, and challenges in sustainable management. The dataset is valuable for researchers, conservation practitioners, and policymakers interested in forest resource management, rural livelihoods, and participatory management approaches.
