The findings were derived from in-depth interviews with ten early career psychologists from South Africa and interpreted using an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis method. The findings are organised into four main themes, each with respective subthemes, providing a comprehensive overview of the participants' experiences and reflections when working with the suicidal population, particularly concerning how this influenced their sense of professional competence.
