Progress in International Reading Literacy (PIRLS) 2023 English and isiZulu achievement

This dataset is secondary data primarily collected by the University of Pretoria in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education. It mainly contains variables that deal with the achievement scores of grade 4 learners who completed the Progress in International Reading Literacy 2023 assessment booklets in English and isiZulu. The data was collected through the PIRLS 2023 Achievement booklets. The data was cleaned and processed by the primary researchers at the Center for Evaluation and Assessments at the University of Pretoria. For the purpose of the dissertation concerned, the data was reanalysed to look at the raw scores, mean scores and percentages. During the analysis, various programs were utilised to analyse the data. Statistical Package for Social Sciences, International Data-Base Analyzer and Rasch Unidimensional Measurement Models 2023 were the software used to analyse the data to produce the outputs required to address the research questions posed in the dissertation concerned. Specifically, the data file uploaded here requires to be accessed through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences in conjunction with International Data-Base Analyzer, and then various steps are necessary to analyse the data, recode and prepare the data for Microsoft Excel and to Rasch Unidimensional Measurement Models 2023.
