This is dataset from a qualitative multi case study on the teaching of writing in English second language in the Foundation Phase for a masters dissertation on curriculum and instructional design and development. Data was generated from the semi structured interviews, English writing lesson observations as well as teacher curriculum document analysis. The data entails teaching approaches, methods and strategies that teachers use to teach writing in their respective grades and factors that contribute to their practices. A thematic analysis was used to analyse the data to gain knowledge on the teacher practices in the teaching writing to English second language learners.
