The use of metadiscourse analysis in undergraduate students' essays

dataset

This dataset shows investigation of the use of metadiscourse features in essays written by native and non-native speakers of English at the undergraduate level. A mixed method and corpus linguistics approach was employed. To identify the metadiscourse features, Hyland’s (2005) classification of metadiscourse items was explored. The findings revealed that the two groups of students used more interactive resources than interactional resources, and also showed a similar pattern in their use of interactive resources.
