Mechanical testing of lumbar spine PEEK and titanium cages. Testing results consisted of dynamic and static testing according to the ASTM F2077 and ASTM F2267 testing methods. Static and dynamic tests were conducted according to ASTM F2267 on six titanium and six PEEK cages. Static testing measured foam stiffness, while dynamic testing recorded cycle counts to failure. A Mann–Whitney U test was used to compare distributions between materials. The aim of the study was to assess whether titanium cages fabricated using laser-based powder bed fusion (LBPF) offer superior resistance to subsidence compared to conventional PEEK cages.
