Tree traits and post-fire resprouting measurements of burnt adult Vachellia erioloba trees
After a major fire event at Benfontein Nature Reserve in 2021 the survival of burnt Vachellia erioloba trees was investigated to determine what traits predicted their survival and degree of post-fire resprouting. The data collected 1 month after the fire constituted tree traits (height, circumference, trunk damage) and degree of fire damage. The data collected 8 months after the fire were measures of resprouting and degree of resprouting. GPS coordinates were collected for each tree so that the same trees could be remeasured.
Permission was obtained from DeBeers Group (land owners) and the DFFE (Vachellia erioloba is a protected tree).
