Images illustrating renewable energy transition in Siyathemba Local Municipality
This dataset depicts the research journey in Siyathemba Local Municipality (SLM). The images were taken in May 2022 during the fieldwork. The research was based on the issue of transitioning from coal to renewable energy. This study explores whether the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) operating in (SLM) in the Northern Cape province of South Africa have contributed to the socio-economic development of small towns in the area which affects all corners of this area's development.
The dataset presents four images; the first image is of a wind turbine in Garob Wind Farm which is owned by Enel Green Power located in Copperton. The second image is of an informal settlement, located outside the town of Prieska. The third image was taken during the time I interviewed a Siyathemba Local Municipal official at the local library in Prieska. The fourth image is an image of a local municipality building of Siyathemba Local Municipality.
