Analysis of South African mining companies' operations and prioritization of sustainable development goals (SDGs).
This dataset contains the data generated from the analysis of 11 mining companies in South Africa who participated in this study. It was collected from the mining companies 2021 annual reports as part of a PhD in Business Management thesis titled 'Enabling leadership of and innovation in South African mining companies: pursuing environmental, social, governance principles and the 2030 SDGs'. The data includes the analysis of annual reports and integrated reports. The data explores existence of mining companies, mining companies listed, size of the mining companies, revenue of mining companies, published reports of mining companies, geographic operations of mining companies, geographic location of headquarters, commodities of participating mining companies, SDG prioritisation of participating mining companies, lowest SDGs alignment by participating mining companies, climate commitments of participating mining companies, participating mining companies’ commitment to decarbonization. In addition, an example of analysis of a transcript of an interview with a leader at a participating mining company to explore practical examples of enabling leadership.
